Whole Grains Summit 2012: 300 Global Leaders Pledge Action to Improve Public Health with Whole Grains

300 global leaders from health and food industry sectors met to work together towards the common goal of  bringing business goals into alignment with public health goals at the Whole Grains Summit, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota from Saturday, May 19th to Tuesday, May 22nd. During the closing keynote session, Assistant Surgeon General Dr. James Galloway called participants to make change now, stating “The choices we make are shaped by the choices we have. It is critical that all sectors and stakeholders work together to create a healthy food environment.” The Summit was organized by the Grains for Health Foundation with support from an international panel of experts in grain science, food technology and public health to develop global solutions that allow easier access to healthy grain-based foods by consumers.

Whole Grains' Dancing Debut: Students Get Flashy For The 1st National Whole Grains Sampling Day

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Wednesday, April 4, 2012) – In effort to raise awareness about whole grains, the Grains for Health Foundation of St. Louis Park, MN coordinated a flash mob  in front of Coffman Memorial Union on the University of Minnesota’s campus over the lunch hour. Food science & nutrition student volunteers grabbed the attention of University of Minnesota students and staff with loud music and flashy dancing to the tune of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota’s “Do-Groove” song.
After the performance, volunteers distributed an informational flier on whole grain benefits and free samples of whole grain foods, donated by MOM Brands, formerly Malt-O-Meal, and Kraft Foods, to onlookers.
